Virtual Reference Advisory Committee

In June, 2004, the State Library Board approved a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant to Cleveland Public Library, NOLA Regional Library System, and Cuyahoga County Public Library to provide a 24/7 virtual reference service for all Ohio residents. This service, known as Know–It–Now, began in September 2004, and preliminary usage data indicate that the service is quite successful.

The State Library has formed a Virtual Reference Advisory Committee (VRAC) whose purpose will be to provide guidance and advice to the State Library concerning the Know–It–Now service. The charge of the committee is two–fold: make recommendations that will improve or expand the virtual reference services offered to Ohio residents and make recommendations concerning the long–term funding of this service.

The committee will meet at least two times per year. Most likely the meetings will take place in Columbus and will last approximately 4 hours. Members may be asked to volunteer to do additional work that will advance the efforts of the committee. Members of the committee will serve a term of three years. Members will be eligible for reappointment, but no one will serve more than six years consecutively. At its first meeting, the members of the committee will elect a chair person and vice–chair person.
