Joanne Budler – State Librarian of Ohio
Over the past three years, Ms. Budler has created a vision for the State Library of Ohio to lead in ensuring the delivery of all information and library services to all Ohio residents, anywhere, anytime. She has developed four targets to achieve this vision. First, the State Library of Ohio will excel in promoting information services to Ohio’s library community, state government officials/employees, and residents. Second, the State Library of Ohio will be a leader in making the best use of public resources to provide excellent services to all Ohio residents. Third, the State Library of Ohio will be the best at delivering information discovery and utilization skills to patrons across the state. Finally, the State Library of Ohio will enhance the spirit of collaboration and mutual support of all the State Library of Ohio staff, engaging that staff as a team to achieve the goals of the State Library.
Before coming to Ohio, Ms. Budler was Deputy State Librarian of The Library of Michigan from 2000 to 2004. She served for more than six years in the Nebraska Library Commission as Director of Network Services and NEBASE, the OCLC network for the state of Nebraska. In both capacities, she organized statewide services and planned and participated in training opportunities. She was also a Legislative Reference Librarian for more than seven years in the Legislative Research Division for the State of Nebraska. Ms. Budler’s public library experience was at Lincoln City Libraries in Nebraska where she served as Curator for a special collection.
Ms. Budler holds a Master of Arts degree in Library Science from the University of Iowa. She also received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writers Workshop from the University of Iowa.
