Standards for Public Library Service in Ohio

2002 Revision

This edition of Standards for Public Library Service in Ohio, updated by the Library Development Committee of the Ohio Library Council (OLC), defines a basic level of library service and gives Ohio libraries of all sizes a tool to assess their strengths, identify areas for improvement, plan for and deliver service, and set goals and objectives for improving public library service.

This 2002 revision focuses exclusively on service standards in five core areas: Governance, Resources, Dissemination of Resources, Cooperation, and Communications. Each standard is accompanied by a set of guidelines to serve as examples and suggestions. To receive a complete copy of the Standards for Public Library Service in Ohio, including a set of guidelines to serve as examples and suggestions, go to the OLC website under "Publications".

State Library of Ohio consultants will assist any library in its assessment and planning to meet these Standards. In addition, State Library consultants have compiled an extensive list of resources for the Standards. Users can download these documents to create checklists and other tools.
