Statistical Advisory Committee
For many years the State Library has collected data on public libraries through its Annual Statistical Report. This data provides valuable information to library administrators, library boards, local government, the state legislature, the media, and national library organizations. It provides a comprehensive database of information that shows the use of public libraries over a 70 year period.
The State Library wants to insure that the Annual Statistical Report meets the needs of the Public Library Community and will create a Statistics Advisory Committee to advise the State Library on all aspect of the collection and reporting of public library data.
The charge of the committee will be as follows:
Review the data elements collected in the Annual Report and make recommendations concerning additions and deletions of data elements.
Recommend reports, charts, and tables of interest to the public library community to be published annually reporting the collected data.
Make recommendations concerning training for the library community in reporting and/or using the statistics.
Investigate the feasibility and desirability of using a Geographical Information System (GIS) to display the library data.
The Committee will need to meet several (2-3 times) times during the coming year to accomplish the charge. Much of the work of the Committee will be accomplished electronically. After that, the Committee will meet once a year.
