1. Fines
- Fines shall be charged for Sundays.
- Items returned in the depository after the library closes will be regarded as having been resumed when the library reopens; except that, no fine shall be assessed for any item returned before the library opens on the day following its due date.
- Patrons 60 or older are exempt from payment of all fines.
- Ten cents [.10] per day for each overdue book, periodical, pamphlet, puzzle, audio cassette, and compact disk and twenty–five cents [.25] per day for each art print, shall be charged.
- One dollar [$1] per day for each overdue video cassette and CD ROM.
- The maximum fines charged for overdue materials will be assessed according to the following schedule:
- art prints $5.00
- adult books $5.00
- audio cassette $5.00
- CD's $5.00
- juvenile/intermediate books $5.00
- puzzles $5.00
- periodicals $5.00
- pamphlets $5.00
- paperbacks [non–catalogued] $5.00
- video cassettes $5.00
- CD–ROM's $5.00
- Patrons owing five dollars [$5] or more in fines [and/or charges] will be prohibited from borrowing. The maximum fine shall not exceed the price of the item as listed in the VTLS System. If the price is not given in VTLS, the default price as given in the chart below, will be used.
2. Additional Charges & Fees
- Replacement borrower's cards. A one–dollar [$1] charge will be assessed for replacement borrower's cards.
- Damaged books, periodicals and pamphlets:
- If only the cover, not the pages of a book has been damaged, the cost of rebinding at the current rate shall be charged.
- $1.00 will be charged for totally damaged plastic cases.
- If a borrower cannot locate an item at the time it is due to be returned, the borrower may formally report it "lost" thereby stopping the further accumulation of fines. The charge for the item and the processing fee are due immediately and must be paid to clear the borrower's record. Charges for lost or damaged items shall be assessed in accordance with the price as listed in the VTLS system. If the replacement cost is still undetermined, the cost shall be a default price as established by Advisory Council [see schedule below] plus a $5 processing fee. Overdue fines will be waived.
- A "lost" item must either be found and returned to the library in good condition or paid for according to the established procedure. Upon payment for a "lost" item, a receipt will be issued. If within six weeks of the date of payment, the item is returned in good condition, along with this official receipt, the price of the item shall be refunded by check at the time of the next regularly scheduled payment of library bills. The processing fee is non–refundable.
- InterLibrary Loans. A flat charge of twenty–five cents [$.25] shall be assessed at check–out for each item borrowed on InterLibrary loan.
3. Lost and Damaged Materials
- The cost to replace lost items or repair damaged [either partially or totally] library materials and equipment shall be charged to the patron at the price as listed in the VTLS System. If the cost is still undetermined, the cost shall be a default price as established by Advisory Council [see schedule below]. Persons paying for a lost item will be charged an additional fee of $5.00 per item for processing. This fee is non–refundable if the item is returned.
4. Other Charges
- Teacher's Collections. Teachers will be held individually responsible for fines, fees and/or charges on all items which they have charged out in a teachers' collection, in accordance with this fines, fees and charges policy.
- Meeting Room. A charge of ten dollars [$10] per hour or portion thereof will be assessed for meeting room use beyond regular library hours. A ten dollar [$10] fee will be assessed if food or refreshments are served in the meeting room.
Note: No one has the authority to waive or modify any part of this policy except the Director. Any questions, comments or concerns regarding this policy should be submitted, in writing, to the Director.
