Worthington Public Library

Fax Service

Fax services are provided at the Worthington Libraries for patrons to obtain library materials from other libraries and receive them at the Library or at other fax locations. The goal of this service is to provide interchange of library materials, promote resource sharing among libraries and insure the highest level of information delivery for patrons.

Patrons may request fax service at the Worthington Libraries, from other area libraries through a staff member, or from their home or business.

Patrons requesting faxes at Worthington Libraries, or from home or business, must have a valid Discovery Place card. The use of a library card for fax services will be suspended at all Discovery Place libraries if charges reach the maximum of $100.00 on a corporate card, or $25.00 on a personal card. Fax services will be reinstated when the balance is reduced. The card will be blocked for all library services if there are unpaid fine charges of $5.00 or more on the card. Staff members will check the charges on a patron's card before placing the request. Fax charges will be added to the card and noted on the cover sheet. Patrons may get a receipt when they pay for their faxes.

Patrons may request a total of five articles, not to exceed 25 pages, per day. Faxes will be used to answer specific reference questions with verified citations.

The Library does not fax IRS forms, sheet music, city directory or Criss–Cross pages. Legal forms, law codes, pharmaceutical, medical and consumer information can only be faxed at staff discretion, with verified citations provided by the patron. Simple definitions of legal and medical terms may be faxed at staff discretion with a note that more information is available at libraries.

Charges for faxes will be as follows:

  1. $.10 (ten cents) per page for faxes of library materials received from other libraries. Charges will be added to the patron's card when the fax is received, regardless of the fax quality. The Library cannot guarantee fax quality.
  2. Fax materials received from University Microfilms International (UMI), through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), or other official library sources will be charged at the UMI or lending institution rate and will be prepaid before the request is initiated.
  3. Faxes from Worthington Libraries to another library system will not be charged. The receiving library may elect to charge according to their policies.
  4. Faxes from the Library to a non–library location such as a business or home will be charged at a rate of $1.00 (one dollar) per page, not including the cover sheet, for local area calls. Charges for long distance faxes to a business or personal location will be $2.00 per page with a valid Discovery Place card. Charges will be added to the card at the time of transmission.

Adopted by the Board of Trustees 9/23/02; effective 10/1/02.
