Rules Of Conduct
In order to protect the rights of users and employees, to preserve and protect library materials and facilities, and to maintain the environment and atmosphere essential to the proper operation of the library facility, the following Rules of Conduct will be strictly enforced.
- Loud talking and prolonged conversations within the library are prohibited.
- Loitering in the library building or on the grounds is prohibited.
- Food, beverages, or the use of tobacco products in any form is prohibited.
- Not more than four chairs and four people are permitted at a table or study carrel.
- Shirts and shoes must be worn in the library building.
- Feet or shoes on furniture, sitting on arms of chairs or couches, or lying down on couches is prohibited.
- Abusive and/or offensive conduct or language, directed toward any person, is prohibited.
- Animals, with the sole exception of animal aids for the disabled, are prohibited.
- Young children must not be left unattended anywhere in the library or on the property.
- Sleeping in the library is prohibited.
- Soliciting/surveying is prohibited.
Violation of any of the above rules will result in the following action:
- The offender will be given one verbal warning.
- If the violation continues, the offender will be instructed to leave and will not be permitted access to the library for a period of one (1) week.
- If the offender refuses to leave, the police will be called to remove him/her, and the offender will not be permitted access to the library for a period of one (1) month.
- If any person who has received a month suspension again violates any of the above rules, he/she will be barred from the library building and property for a period of one (1) year.
- Chronic offenders (those who are asked to leave the premises on three separate occasions within a six (6) month period) will be barred from the library building and property from one (1) year.
- A written notice of eviction will be prepared in connection with any suspension from library premises and, if a suspended person enters or attempts to enter the premises before library privileges are restored, he/she will be subject to criminal prosecution for trespass as allowed by law.
