Pickerington Central High School hosts State Library of Ohio Board meeting.

Jan RogersThe State Library Board held its May meeting at the Pickerington Central High School Media Center to see firsthand the school district's new software and equipment for students with disabilities. In March the Library Board awarded a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant for $23,906 to purchase a variety of software and magnification devices to be located in the district’s 11 media centers as well as the Pickerington Public Library.  The purpose of the grant is to allow students with physical and learning disabilities equal access to resources at both the school media centers and the public library. Jan Rogers, Pickerington Local School District Assistive Technology Specialist demonstrated scanners, talking dictionaries, talking books, magnifiers, ipods, and other devices that allow teachers and others to record themselves reading books for their students enabling the students to read along as they listen to the recordings. For more information about this demonstration read the June issue of the State Library News or visit the state library website at: www.library.ohio.gov/publib/lsta98.html
