First Lady Frances Strickland Visits State Library of Ohio and Ohioana Library
Columbus, Ohio – First Lady Frances Strickland recently visited the Ohioana Library Association and the State Library of Ohio to talk about books, authors, libraries and preservation. Mrs. Strickland spoke of the importance of Ohio artists and writers in our heritage and culture.
State Librarian Jo Budler provided a tour of the library explaining the vast array of services available to state employees, librarians, and residents of Ohio. Mrs. Strickland was especially interested in the programs and services that support the Governor’s Learning for Life: A Fair Start for Every Ohio Child initiative. In addition to the tour she was delighted to receive a State Library of Ohio library card for both she and Governor Strickland. According to Budler, “Mrs. Strickland’s visit provided an opportunity for us to present our specialized services available to state government, libraries and residents throughout Ohio.”
Ohioana Library Executive Director Linda Hengst highlighted the commitment to collecting, preserving, and promoting the written work of Ohio’s writers, artists, and musicians. Mrs. Strickland will serve as an ex-offico member of the Ohioana Library Board of Trustees. According to Hengst, “though we are not a circulating library, our materials are available for use in our reading room, and often, people come to our collection for books that can be found in no other library.”
