Have you ever wondered what people are saying about your library online? Are you looking for updates on issues affecting libraries? Do you want to know what local authors are up to?  With Google Alerts, you can have the information you seek delivered to your e-mail box every day.

According to the Google Alerts page (http://www.google.com/alerts), “Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.” Creating a Google Alert couldn’t be easier:

  • Enter the search term you wish to use.  Standard Google search structure applies:

  • Determine what you’d like to have searched:

  • Specify the frequency of your Google Alert searches:

  • Specify the number of search returns you would like in your Google alert:

  • Provide your e-mail address and click on “Create Alert”:

Once you’ve set up your alert, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from Google; click on the activation link and your Google Alert request is complete.  Multiple alerts may be created, allowing you to receive information on all of your topics of interest, up to 1,000 alerts per e-mail address.

For more information, Google provides a list of Frequently Asked questions at http://www.google.com/support/alerts/.
