When our Library was started in 1927, I’m sure that the staff and board never could have dreamed of all that Libraries have and do for patrons today. Some of the most unusual items available to be checked out at the Montpelier Public Library are cake pans and cookie cutters. The cookie cutters available are either the alphabet or numbers. The cake pans are not the ordinary round, square or oblong cake pans that Mom and Grandma had but special shapes and characters that today’s children are very familiar with.  Our local school sports teams are known as the Montpelier Locomotives so naturally there is a locomotive in our collection. Since every child has their favorite dinosaur, we have two different dinosaur cake pans to choose from. Garfield the cat, Blue from Blue’s Clues, a cat, a cross shape, and the word congratulations spelled out in the bottom of a pan so when inverted appears on top are more items in our collection. A generic super hero pan comes with plastic head and chest piece so you can make either a Superman or a Batman cake. Rounding out our little collection are two gelatin molds that will be the hit of anyone’s creepy scary Halloween party.   How would you like to serve your guests a platter with a jiggle wiggly Jell-o heart? Not a Valentine shaped heart but a human heart.  Or take the cover off a mold that looks just like a human brain? I guarantee these will be a hit at your next Halloween get together.
