State Librarian's ReportAs communities across Ohio face tough economic conditions libraries are challenged with reduced budgets and increasing demand for services. Many libraries are doing more with less and looking for ways to save money, while at the same time providing the best possible service. The Ohio Regional Library System (RLS) membership organizations present opportunities for libraries to create synergy by offering valuable core services, continuing education (CE) and other extended services. As you will read in this issue, CE and extended programs and services may vary among the RLSs to meet the needs of their members. Local, regional, and online courses and workshops enable library staff to participate without the added cost of traveling long distances.
The State Library continues to pursue new and support existing partnerships across library organizations. Together we can create opportunities for all libraries that otherwise might only be available to a few or none at all.
