National Library Week

National Library Week is a time to recognize, celebrate, and promote all types of Libraries in America. Sponsored by ALA, the first National Library Week was held in 1958 with the theme 'Wake Up and Read'. This year libraries throughout Ohio celebrated the week with the theme 'Join the Circle of Knowledge'.

Starting in 2003, National Library Week now includes a day (Tuesday) to honor and show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of library workers. The the State Library celebrated National Library Workers Day this year by showing our appreciation for our library workers with a big breakfast. The feast was prepared and served by the managers and everyone watched the inspiring message from the Honorary Chair of National Library Week 2008 Julie Andrews and other videos highlighting library workers. In addition, each on our staff received a TEAMWORK pin.

As you read through examples of how libraries around Ohio celebrated the week I hope you find ideas that you might like to try next year.
