Dear Directors of Ohio’s Libraries:
In many respects all Ohio libraries share the same customers. Many school library users become university library users. Many students use the public library as well as their school or university library. Public library customers want resources from academic libraries. As leaders, we seldom have an opportunity to interact with each other as a multi-type library community. The Library Partnership Summit will provide that opportunity.
At the Library Partnership Summit, leaders of Ohio's library communities will identify opportunities for shared projects and initiatives. The Summit begins with a panel discussion that will outline opportunities (and challenges) for collaboration, followed by small group discussions. In these groups you will identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the library community as a whole. Included in this will be a discussion of "Where do we go from here?" so we can decide how to maintain the momentum that this Summit is sure to generate!
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the statewide Library Partnership Summit on May 21, 2007. This Partnership Summit will include directors from academic and public libraries and K-12 library leaders. This Summit is being planned collaboratively by the State Library, OHIONET, OhioLINK, OLC, OPLIN, and INFOhio. This effort is also being supported by ALAO, OCLIS, OELMA, Kent State University and the Regional Library Systems.
The financial support of several partners will help keep the cost of attending minimal in order to include a wide range of participants and viewpoints. A successful Summit will foster ongoing conversations and projects which will help us all in the future.
The Library Partnership Summit will be held in Columbus. Below is a preliminary agenda. Invitations will be mailed to Directors in early spring. Please be sure to RSVP to reserve your spot.
