State Library Departments

Circulation

Since 1895 the State Library of Ohio has provided public access to its specialized collections of research books, periodicals, and journals. The State Library assists local libraries with back-up reference services and by filling requests for materials through the interlibrary loan network.

Employee Services

Employee Services is responsible for coordination of personnel administration, recruitment, interview/selection of applicants, orientation of employees, benefits, collective bargaining/labor relations, employee development/training, disability/workers compensation, EEO, ADA, FMLA and agency/statewide policies as it impacts State Library staff.  This unit is also responsible for working with employees/managers on performance evaluations and ensuring staff are properly/ fairly evaluated in accordance with State of Ohio guidelines.

Fiscal Services

Fiscal Services is responsible for budgeting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, purchasing, and financial reporting for all departments of the State Library. Fiscal Services also serves as the agency liaison with other state agencies such as the Office of Budget & Management, Treasurer of State, Auditor of State and various departments within the Department of Administrative Services.

Government Information

The State Library Government Information Department is Ohio's only federal Regional Depository Library, ensuring Ohio citizens have permanent access to state and federal documents.

Library Programs and Development

The Library Development division is charged with providing leadership and partnership in the development of library services throughout Ohio.

Professional Development

The Professional Development department is responsible for planning and delivery of continuing education opportunities for librarians and state employees using a variety of delivery options, including on-site training, videoconferencing, and on-line training.

Research Services

Any member of the Ohio Legislature or state agency employee may use the full services of the State Library. Database searches, interlibrary loan, and research assistance are all available for any work-related request.

SEO (Serving Every Ohioan) Library Center

The SEO Library Center is a branch of the State Library of Ohio. SEO administers a library automation consortium for 72 library systems, provides interlibrary loan and back–up reference services, manages one mobile computer training lab, provides eBooks, Audio Books, Music, and Playaways, and public performance rights DVDs.

Talking Books

The State Library coordinates and funds library service for Ohioans who are print handicapped. The Talking Book Program loans equipment to play the recorded books and magazines obtained from the Regional Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Transport and Facility Services

The Transport & Facility Services department is an internal support group for the State Library of Ohio containing staff members providing mail center operations and facilities coordination and management.  The department also coordinates the delivery portion of statewide resource sharing for Ohio libraries.
