Special thank you to Director Laura Leonard for a wonderful visit to Twinsburg Public Library. This library is a beautiful light and airy building – what a delight to visit. The staff is excited about providing service to a community that clearly values its library.

Library consultant, Jan Haines, and I toured the library, met staff, and watched a performance of “Tongue Twisted.” The teen performers were top-notch and the unplanned audience participation only added to the performance.

Here are some facts about the library:

The current library was built in 1993 and is located on a campus with the Twinsburg Fitness Center and the Twinsburg High School. A 15,286 sq. ft. addition was built in 2003. A new youth services area with a TeenCrossings room, Children’s Place, meeting rooms and administrative area were included in the project.

The library participates in the yearly Twins Day festival and is part of the United Libraries Book Cart Drill Team of Northeast Ohio that is a part of the festival parade.

The library has a computer lab and a computer classroom. Staff members and agencies from outside the library provide computer instruction to community members.

The Twinsburg Public Library was recently ranked number one for its population served on the 10th Hennen’s American Public Library’s Ratings (HAPLR) Report. The library has also been in the top ten of each edition of the report including ranking number one five times.

Twinsburg PL has a 50-book challenge for people to read 50 books in a calendar year. It also has several book groups including the Third Monday Book Group, Mystery Book Group, Asian Book Group, Classics Book Group, Ladies Night Book Group, Men’s Book Group, and the African American Book Group.

Twinsburg PL serves a diverse population of Asian, Russian, Indian and Middle Eastern community members.

The teens annually participate in a Battle of the Books competition against the Stow-Monroe Falls PL, the Hudson Library and Historical Society and the Cuyahoga Falls PL. There is also a Battle of the Bands with teens from Twinsburg, Stow-Monroe Falls and Hudson participating in the event.

Twinsburg Public Library has areas for different ages and interests including a Magazine Express area with five copies of popular magazines, a Media Zone and a Senior Scene area.

Twinsburg is a member of the Readers’ Row consortium with Hudson Library and Historical Society and the Stow-Monroe Falls Public Library in conjunction with the Learned Owl Book Shop in Hudson. Rita Dove, former US Poet Laureate was the 2009 speaker.

This is the 8th summer that the TeenCrossings Acting Troup has presented a play for the Twinsburg families. Tongue Twisted, this year’s play had a cast of 25 local teens and included such tongue twisters as “your Bob owes our Bob a bob, and if your Bob doesn’t give our Bob the bob, our Bob will give your Bob a bob on the knob” and “a bug bit a bold bald bear and the bold bald bear bled blood badly”.
