Vendors to Present Solutions for Open Source Software Statewide Resource Sharing System

 The State Library of Ohio continues to work towards the next-generation of statewide resource sharing to ensure all Ohio residents receive the best possible library service and engage in lifelong learning.  In pursuit of these goals, the State Library created a multi-state collaborative.  From this partnership, a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an open source software statewide resource sharing system solution was issued in December 2009.  The RFP can be found here.

 
The Ohio library community is invited to attend presentations from vendors responding successfully to the Request for Proposal on February 18th at the State Library of Ohio.  Equinox Software, Inc. will present from 9 -11:30 a.m.  Relais International will present from 1:15 – 3:45 p.m.

State Library of Ohio seeking nominations for appointment to the State Library Board
 
The State Library of Ohio is seeking nominations for appointment to the State Library Board.  Board Member Mary Vesper Schwetschenau recently resigned from the Board leaving a vacancy. The appointed candidate will complete Ms. Schwetschenau's term which expires on December 31, 2011.
 
The nominated candidate should have experience in at least one of the following areas:
·    As a board member or an employee of a public organization or institution.
·    As a board member or former employee of a school, public, academic or specialized library.
·    In the development of equal access to information for all Ohio residents.
·    Changing technologies and their impact on libraries.
 
The State Library Board consists of five members appointed by the State Board of Education.  The Board ordinarily meets for a two-day retreat in January and then monthly March through July and again in September, October and December.  For information on the specific powers and duties of the State Library Board, please see Chapter 3375.01 of the Ohio Revised Code. At its February 10, 2009 meeting the State Library Board reaffirmed their desire to seek balanced geographic representation when considering nominations for appointment to the Board.
 
Current or past board members or former employees of school, public, academic or special libraries will be given first consideration for nomination.  However, it should be noted that a person cannot serve on a public library board and on the State Library Board concurrently.
 
Current State Library Board members are:
Dr. George W. Paulson, President, of Columbus (term ends 12/31/2010)
Lynn Grimshaw, Vice-President, of Wheelersburg (term ends 12/31/2009)
Ward Murrey of Caldwell (term ends 12/31/2012)
Stephen Wood of Lyndhurst (term ends 12/31/2013)
 
The State Library Board has identified the following top strategic goals for FY 2009:
Target 1:  The State Library will provide high quality library and information services and products to all organizational units of state government.
 
Target 2:  The State Library will serve as a resource to the library community by providing training, consultation and statewide projects which will enhance library service to Ohio residents.
 
Target 3:  The State Library will be a statewide resource in partnership with local libraries to provide library service to Ohio residents.  Our emphasis will be on "virtual" information to meet the anytime, anywhere needs of Ohio residents.
 
Target 4:  The State Library will provide support to its internal customers in the areas of fiscal administration, employee relations, information technology, marketing, building services and delivery.
