Sara Eckland Payne, Morley LibraryMorley Library in Painesville, OH is one of 34 libraries that have received “The American Dream Starts @ your library” grant to help increase literacy services to adult English language learners. The grants are funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and implemented by the American Library Association. “The American Dream Starts @ your library” grant was founded to meet the growing demand for English language literacy services. The Library has used the grant to help new immigrants learn English by adding two new computer workstations. These stations will be dedicated to the computer software Rosetta Stone – American English. In addition to the Rosetta Stone workstations, Morley Library has a wide variety of resources that can help new residents reach their dream – including materials about learning English and finding information on becoming a U.S. citizen. The Library also hosts a weekly English Conversation group, and looks forward to beginning a weekly class dedicated to helping immigrants become U.S. citizens. Librarian Krista Zivkovich administers this grant. |
