NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK AT SOUTHERN STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGESouthern State Community College has enjoyed a full week of celebrating National Library Week since 1995. Each year just seems to get better and better. People always look forward to this week. We usually have things going on from 8 am – 8 pm, Monday-Thursday.
Students, faculty, staff and the community are involved in our celebration. The highlight of the week is a trivia contest between the Adult Opportunity class and the library staff. The topics are current events, sports, TV and movies. There are people in the college that are assigned to come up with questions on these topics. The winning team cooks a meal for the losing team.
This year besides the trivia contest we plan on having Blue (a pet therapy dog) be with us again. He has been an annual visitor for the past several years. In addition we will have Back to the Cross (gospel group), Barauck (K-9 dog), speakers on dealing with stress, dressing with color, recycling, and flower gardening, and Liberty Band will be performing. Liberty band is a local band that consists of community members. This is just to name a few of the events that will be going on.
We also serve refreshments all week.
